We are researchers unionized with Sinai Postdoctoral Organizing Committee-UAW Local 4100 (SPOC-UAW Local 4100) and Researchers Organizing Committee at Sinai-UAW (ROCS-UAW). We are Postdocs, Instructors, and Scientists at Mount Sinai. And we are united in our fight to protect science by making Mount Sinai more equitable, competitive, and secure.

As researchers, we drive Mount Sinai’s scientific mission and our work draws in millions of dollars of federal grants. However, many of us still struggle with the affordability crisis in New York City, a lack of secure and equitable rights in the workplace, and increasing uncertainty about our futures given the precarious nature of science funding and the rights of international researchers in recent years.

Since the beginning of 2025, we’ve been fighting back to defeat unprecedented cuts to federal science funding, alongside the Mount Sinai administration. While we’ve made progress, many of us continue to be deeply impacted by cuts to federal grants and the potential for more cuts in the future.

This year, over 700 of us are bargaining three separate contracts with Mount Sinai to make our institution live up to its promise of advancing science, medicine, and health care delivery for the benefit of humanity. And for the first time, we are coordinating our contract campaigns to tell Mount Sinai to stand with us, not against us in the fight to defend science and workers’ rights.
